Ultralight Leashes with the ltwt leather.
ULtralight is 2 pieces of the thinnest leather we carry, and if it’s not as thin as we like, I skive it thinner, very carefully, and change the blades very often.
Then I take the two pieces at whatever length you want and carefully use leather glue to bond them together. I let them set overnight, trim the sides, and give it to Peter to weave. We make the cuts a bit closer together so the color looks great. If it’s for a tiny dog under 5lbs, I try to start with a 5/16 so it’s as light as possible. We have some snaps that are really tiny, but difficult for older people to open. So we normally use a small snap. Just don’t let it hit them in the head. I will try to get the pictures of the hardware up soon.
When measuring for collars, use a tape measure around the top of the neck behind the ears. Yes, I know you want the collar to fit around the middle or bottom of the neck. Leather stretches; please measure this way, and the collar will stretch out quicker than you know. Do not measure tightly; put a couple of fingers inside the measuring tape, and that will work great.
The adjustable collar is a buckle with holes at the end. There are normally 5 holes, 1/2″apart. We used the second-to-last one for your measurement. This gives you 1/2 in looser than you want, but also 4 holes for the stretch.
